Artist Statement

As an engineer by training and profession I was drawn to wood sculpture.  Unlike the "blank canvas" of 2D art, the wood constrains the sculpture in shape and design, not unlike the many constraints
underlying all engineering problems.  Through hard work, inspiration,
and even luck, I slowly evolve a rough, imperfect log into an elegant
form over tens of hours.  I produce both figurative and abstract sculptures.  In both, I try to create simple, flowing shapes that complement the beautiful underlying figuration and color of each
unique hardwood.
